It’s no secret that Mr. Hare is of Jamaican decent and being such, night time shoes have always been a priority. It is no exaggeration to say he’s been dreaming of these shoes, ‘The Stingray Orwell’, all his life – could they be any finer?
Orwell Stingray is an apron Derby shoe in patent leather and stingray built on a Blake construction. The heel quarter, apron and vamp walls utilize patent leather while the forward vamp is stingray. Stingray skins are food by product of the Far East where stingray dishes are commonplace. Stingray skin is so tough it was originally used as a protection against sword slashes and is believed to have been worn by Attila the Hun. As with all Mr. Hare shoes, Orwell Stingray is fully leather lined in natural leather. The sole and heel are also constructed from 100% leather with a rubber heel insert. Reinforcement nails protect the toe area. The minimal seams on the upper are rolled to avoid untidy fraying.For best care, Orwell stingray should be stored on a shoetree to retain the shape. Patent leather and Stingray can just be polished with a clean, dry, soft cotton cloth.
